Abraham‘s righteousness caused God to inform him of the destruction that was soon to fall upon Sodom and Gomorrah. It was in Sodom that Abraham‘s nephew, Lot, had his home. The terrible wickedness of the citizens of the cities of plain had so provoked God that He was about to destroy them from the face of the earth. (See [Ezekiel:16:49-50 ].) Abraham was alarmed at such news, and immediately began to intercede with the Lord to spare the city of Sodom. The Lord agreed to spare the city if there were found fifty righteous in it. Abraham must have been well informed as to the wickedness of the citizens of that city because he persisted in his intercession for the city until the Lord agreed that the city would be spared if there were but ten righteous found in it.
It should be a matter of great encouragement to all men who pray to the living God to know that often the judgements of God can be delayed, and even prevented, by the prevailing prayers of one righteous man of God. [James:5:16]). God alone knows the number of men and women who through the centuries, have been spared from death and the pangs of hell because of the prayers of someone who loved them enough to prevail with God to spare their lives and their souls until they would repent of their sins. As a through Christian whom have you prayed for lately, did you hear of someone in need and you takeout your time to pray for them or did you just give to them because you think you have enough. The Bible says The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much, do you know that when you give to someone in need and you also pray for them you've also provide for the future of your offspring.
PRAYER IS THE KEY
Although, God is all-powerful and very perceptive, He has chosen to help us and to communicate with us through our prayers. Our most powerful resource, as the children of God, is prayer. The results of our prayers are more powerful than we can ever imagine. Whatever we pray for, according to the promises of God, shall be given to us. Everyone that asks receives.
We know God deeply cares for us, and He wants us to come to Him in prayer. But how can we know that He will hear us and answer our prayers?Jesus said in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you” (emphasis added throughout). This is a very basic starting point. However, it is one that too often is misunderstood or not used.
A young man told me once that he hadn’t prayed in two years. I stressed to him the importance of prayer. His reply was, “But doesn’t the Bible say God knows what we need before we ask?” He was referring to Christ’s words in Matthew 6:8.
Yes, our Father does know what we need before we ask, but by asking we show our Father that we see the need as well, and really want His help to meet that need. Asking shows Him how important the need is to us. God, of course, also sees the difference between habitual, repetitive prayers and persistent, fervent, heartfelt prayers.
This is one point prayer I never joke with when I Pray has it is written in the book of Psalm, “Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I will pray” (Psalm 5:1-2).
Why not have faith in God because JESUS Said Have faith in God. … Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
So what are you waiting for now is the time to seek, and you will find. … For everyone who asks receives. … If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? … If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
